Raventós i Blanc De la Finca · 2022
Raventós i Blanc wines are always special ones — revolutionary even, one might say — but at the same time they offer a local image capable of seducing a world audience. The best Macabeo, Xarel·lo and Parellada grapes from the historic Vinya dels Fòssils vineyard are used to produce this De la Finca wine. It was Manuel Raventós himself, the visionary behind the trio of grapes used for Catalan sparkling wines, who started to use the Massal selection method of propagating their best local vines which eventually led to the excellent ones in use now. These old bush vines were planted in 1964 on high terraces overlooking the River Anoia. The soil is covered with ancient marine fossils, spectacular shapes of shells and sea-snails, which also give salinity to every sip of this wonderful sparkling wine. Aromas of brioche and lemon, of yeast and limestone, float over an austere yet elegant background. Generous and mineral, fresh yet deep in the mouth with an ever-present Mediterranean character and the typicity of the best Penedés vines ready to be enjoyed with every drink. A splendid dry wine with fine bubbles and an abundant complexity, it exudes aromas of smoke, fennel and undergrowth. The freshness of its acidity and the maturity it shows thanks to the warm climate, blend together to create a well-balanced and harmonious wine. It has a creamy enveloping feeling, focused on the tongue when tasting it, though it also flows nimbly around the mouth. Vineyards are mainly located facing northwards. Together with biodynamic agriculture methods and a ground-covering of vegetation, the conditions favour coolness and vitality, both of the vines and the resulting wine. Each variety and plot are fermented separately, to ensure the typicity and maximum expression of the grapes comes through in the final blend, a blend which leads to the magic waiting for you inside every bottle of De la Finca.

About the vineyard[+]
Conca del Riu Anoia is a small geographical region that produces sparkling wines with a marked mineral character and saline expression. It is located in the Catalan region of Penedés, between the Prelitoral and Litoral mountain ranges, in one of the most historic wine-growing valleys. Which wineries are located in this area? Conca del Riu Anoia is an appellation promoted and claimed by Raventós i Blanc, for the time being alone, which does not yet enjoy the status of protected geographical indication. What grape varieties can we find in the Conca del Riu Anoia? In Conca del Riu Anoia you can find native varieties such as Xarel-lo, Macabeo, Parellada, Monastrell, bastard negre, Sumoll and Xarel-lo Vermell, grapes with more than 2,000 years of adaptation in the area. They are not very terpenic varieties, that is not very aromatic, which allows the character of each vintage and the soils in which they are grown to be conveyed more clearly. Do the soils of the Conca del Riu Anoia have any particularities? The soils in the Conca del Riu Anoia are of marine origin, formed by sandstones and clays and a calcareous bedrock with the presence of fossils. An adequate proportion of clays, silts and sands, as well as the depth of the soils, allow the vines to have good water reserves, which are essential for their good development. What about the weather? The Conca del Riu Anoia enjoys a Mediterranean climate with mild winters and hot, dry summers. The proximity to the sea moderates temperature variations, while the coastal mountain range protects the vineyards from excess humidity and the Compte and Montserrat mountain ranges from the cold of the Pyrenees. What are the requirements in Conca del Riu Anoia? In addition to complying with the requirements of the DO Cava, Raventós i Blanc requests that the future designation demand compliance with the following: 100% own vinification and elaboration: it is not allowed to buy wine or bottles in the ageing phase from third-party companies. 100% vinification of base wine for sparkling wine.
