Aires de Garbet is a red of unquestionable importance that exhibits all the character of the Perelada wines. Led by elegance and complexity, its ageing plays a very significant part in the process and prepares it for a long life ahead. Aires de Garbet is one of those unique wines that doesn't succumb to trends and has a very clear idea of what its style should be. It's made exclusively from grapes of the Garnacha variety planted on Finca Garbet's slate soils, one of the most bucolic vineyards in the world, where the vines on the terraces find themselves challenged by strong winds. As required for great wines, the grapes are harvested manually in various lots and after the must has fermented, there follows an ageing period in Bordeaux barrels of French oak from the Tronçais forests, turning it into an absolute gem. Aires de Garbet is an intense, elegant, mineral and fresh red. Appearing a Picota cherry colour of high density, an impressive nose emerges that displays a wide array of aromas: Mediterranean herbs, ripe black fruit, fine cocoa and a convincing minerality. On the palate, after a good decanting, its tannins fade to give way to the Garnacha's ripeness, making it creamy and balsamic. Its splendid finish, highlighting elegant toasty notes and saline touches, rounds off a red of magnificent length and an excellent finish. In order to enjoy it fully we recommend serving it in a tall-stemmed glass.

About the vineyard[+]

The Legacy of Empordà The Empordà wine region, located in the north-eastern corner of Catalonia, is a magical corner where the Mediterranean sea breeze intertwines with ancient vines, giving its wines a unique flavour and character. With centuries of winemaking tradition, Empordà embodies the passion and spirit of the Mediterranean. An Unforgettable Flavour Empordà wines are a reflection of its diverse terroir: from sandy coasts to rocky hills. This variety of soils gives rise to intense red wines, aromatic whites and vibrant rosés. Between the Sea and the Mountains The influence of the sea and the mountains creates a special microclimate in Empordà, giving rise to wines with fresh acidity and surprising complexity. Each glass evokes landscapes of olive trees, golden beaches and charming villages. When mention is made of Empordà and the Costa Brava, a picture comes to mind of a landscape shaped by the wind, the sea and the Pyrenees, providing the vines with a wonderfully picturesque setting in which to flourish. Located in the far north-east of Catalonia and bordering France, first the Phoenicians and then later the Greeks, with settlements in Empúries and Roses, were responsible for introducing vine cultivation to the area. The region has traditionally found fame for producing sweet Garnacha wines. However, in the 1990s young oenologists came to realize the enormous possibilities presented by the region's terroir and opted for making good quality still wines using the region's customary grape varieties blended with foreign ones. Therefore, the locally-grown Garnacha, Cariñena and Garnacha Blanca were joined by Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Chardonnay, which imbue the wine with a very distinctive mineral character due to the granite and slate soil. If there is a climatic feature that typifies the Empordà apart from the obvious Mediterranean influence, it has to be the strong north wind that frequently blows in this area: the Tramontana, which cools down the summer heat and helps to ripen off the grapes. As regards the soil type, it is poor and sandy on the plains, while on the Pyrenean slopes and the Cap de Creus, the vines are planted on terraces with granite and slate soil. This results in wines with more personality. Our Careful Selection Our catalogue of Empordà wines has been carefully selected to offer you only the best of this region. Each bottle tells a story, and we are sure you will find the one that resonates with you.
