J. Antonio Ponce Ponce · 2024
Ponce could be, in the words of Luis Gutiérrez from the Wine Advocate team, the winemaker’s finest wine and possibly the best and most elegant Bobal in the world. An elegant wine, more Burgundy than Rhône. A true marvel. This red is born in the elevated, breezy landscapes of Manchuela, where Bobal and Moravia Agria have coexisted for generations, complementing each other with an almost intuitive naturalness. There, among poor soils, fresh winds, and organically farmed vines, arises a deep and serious expression of terroir. The combination of Bobal—the region’s emblematic, juicy and vibrant variety—and Moravia Agria, more delicate and taut in acidity, results in a wine of singular character: fruity yet sober, with a fine rusticity that doesn’t detract from elegance, but rather defines it. A serious red without rigidity, precise without artifice. A wine that shows that Manchuela’s identity can be at once authentic, refined, and thrilling. The best way to understand it? With a glass in hand, and no hurry.
