Chapoutier St. Joseph Deschants Rouge · 2023

3/5
1 review

Deschants is definitely one of the brightest stars in the extensive Chapoutier range, offering consumers a spicy red that’s immediately attractive, but which also has the ability to become even better over several years, as shown by its fine grained tannins. It’s a wine which remains true to its roots, based mainly in granite, revealing itself to be firm, reserved and even a little austere.

About the vineyard[+]

The wines of Saint-Joseph AOC are one of the discreet jewels of the Northern Rhône. Located on the right bank of the river, between Condrieu and Cornas, this French appellation is famous for its pure Syrah reds and whites sculpted from Marsanne and Roussanne. The reds from Saint-Joseph stand out for their fine, aromatic profile. They are less robust than those from Cornas but more agile and fresh than those from Hermitage. Notes of wild raspberry, black pepper, graphite and violets combine with a silky texture and a long, mineral finish. On the other hand, the whites are rare and surprising: delicate, with aromas of white fruit, dried flowers and honey. Saint-Joseph is the ideal choice for those looking for wines with the soul of the great Rhône but with a more accessible and gastronomic approach. Perfect for grilled meats, spicy dishes or cured cheeses. At Vinissimus we have selected the best producers in the appellation, from big names to small, artisanal vignerons. Wines with character, that speak of the terroir and that invite you to discover the most refined side of French Syrah.
