Braida Barbera d'Asti Montebruna · 2021

3.5/5

The story of Braida and Giacomo Bologna coincides with that of Barbera and its total revaluation. Today the winery is run by Giacomo's children, Beppe and Raffaella, who have inherited the legacy of one of the greatest pioneers of Italian wine, not only Piedmontese. Acidity and fruit are completely in the Braida style, including in the Barbera for ageing, firm and sumptuous. This is demonstrated by Montebruna, which, after a year of large barrel, is vivid and fresh, satisfying and appetizing on the palate. Montebruna is a rich and expressive Barbera with a ruby-violet red colour. It is striking for its very clear aromas of ripe cherries and small red fruits. On the mouth it is deep, full, harmonious, with a long finish that maintains the persistence of the flavour and ends with lovely almond notes. Excellent, balanced, fragrant and easy to drink, it is an excellent accompaniment to pasta dishes with meat sauces, main courses of white or red meat, cheeses and sausages. It comes from a single historic vineyard in Rocchetta Tanaro and is aged for a year in large casks.
